I finished the Iliad First of all, I would like to thank everyone who indulged me in my last post about this poem, including all the downvoters. Thank you all for talking to me about this and helping me reach a new appreciation for it. I think the biggest thing that had led to my former decision was the fact that I went in with very different expectations but taking the break I did allowed me to return to it with new eyes and actually enjoy it the rest of the way. It also helped a lot that I was close enough to book 16 which I had been told by a friendly commenter was where it had picked up for them. Needless to say, it did the same for me. After making the post that I did, I went back to the book and read the introduction (I had initially planned to read it after I had finished the poem to "avoid spoilers" which was definitely not the way I needed to approach this at all). I actually sped through the rest of the books after that, which was surprising considering the snail's pace I was going at hitherto.…
