Despair and anger meet fluttering snares and sentimental strings on the duo’s dreamy but intense new track. The blues of today sound like the downcast plugg compositions on producer undrcvr ’s SoundCloud . “flee,” a new track with Birmingham rapper hunnakay , entwines tear-stained keys with VGM fuzz and lets them dance over telenovela strings. Fluttering snares and hi-hats poke in and out of view like prairie dogs as hunnakay unloads vignettes from off the deep end. Beneath his hubris there’s a desperation that seeps into his violent, almost frantic delivery. “Jit tryna steal something off my pay, I’m cuttin’ off his fuckin’ knuckles,” he spits. “Ain’t stopping for no lights, I’ll cheat the jakes, can’t go to jail today.” It’s strange to describe something so grim as “beautiful,” but the rawness that shines through is nothing short of that.
