A diet rich in lentils, chickpeas , beans, and soy could significantly reduce the risk of developing high blood pressure , with a new study suggesting a reduction of almost a third. Researchers said that optimal daily intakes included approximately 170g of beans, lentils, and chickpeas, and 60-80g of soy-based foods like tofu and edamame. The findings, published in the journal BMJ Nutrition Prevention and Health , synthesised data from 12 existing studies. They revealed that individuals consuming the highest amounts of legumes and soy experienced a 16 per cent and 19 per cent lower risk of high blood pressure , respectively, compared to those with the lowest intake. Overall, the analysis calculated a 30 per cent risk reduction for legumes at the 170g daily level, and a 28-29 per cent reduction for soy at 60-80g per day.…
