Instagram has officially launched “Instants,” a new photo-sharing feature which according to the platform is designed to encourage spontaneous, “unfiltered” communication between close friends and mutual followers. Instants allows users to capture and send real-time photos that disappear immediately after being viewed or within 24 hours if left unopened. That in mind, the feature is accessible via a new photo-stack icon located in the bottom-right corner of the Instagram inbox. To maintain authenticity, the tool requires users to take photos directly through the in-app camera, strictly prohibiting uploads from the camera roll or the use of editing filters; users can still add text captions, though. Instagram adds that it will block screenshots and screen recordings for all Instants, and there’s also an “undo” button which allows users to retract a photo before it is viewed, as well as a “snooze” function that temporarily hides the Instants stack from their inbox.…
