Definitely one of the best movies I've seen in a long time. I'm still thinking about it a day later, it will definitely stay with me for a while. This movie was recommended to me by my mom, and I'd heard of the real-life Merrick and this movie before, but only got around to watching now. I'm not a huge fan of David Lynch. I didn't really care for Blue Velvet or Eraserhead. But this was absolutely fantastic. The black and white was gorgeous. The music was fantastic. And here I think Lynch struck a great balance between his surrealism and having a film that isn't terribly hard to follow (maybe that's a skill issue on my part, but I digress). Hopkins and Hurt were both fantastic in their roles. It was certainly interesting to see Hopkins so young in comparison to many of his other roles, and Hurt's voice was perfectly suited for the role of Merrick. A very moving film that certainly makes you count your blessings and makes you want to be better to your fellow man.…
