Is shifting from biotech to data science a good idea in India after M.Tech? I completed my B.Tech in Biotechnology from a private college and my M.Tech in Biotechnology from an NIT. However, I’m facing serious concerns regarding my career growth. Even after an M.Tech, the entry-level salary packages in this field are quite low—around 5 LPA—and the growth seems very slow. Additionally, the biotechnology ecosystem in India does not appear to be as strong or well-funded, particularly in terms of research and development, when compared to the CS/IT sector. This has made me question my career choices, and I’m starting to feel like I may have made a mistake by choosing this field. Most of my friends from computer science backgrounds are doing very well professionally, and many of them are suggesting that I switch to data science.
