Yves here. It says a lot about the US that this toothless HHS measure is controversial. Hospital and nursing home food is a generally an abortion. Jello. Turkey in a white roll with mayo. Spaghetti in red sauce. Iceberg lettuce too often with orange dressing (and not the tasty Japanese sort). The terrible caliber of hospital meals is a big inducement for getting healthy again. It does not have to be that way. The Hospital for Special Surgery had surprisingly good food (and offered patients a lot of choices) and a friend who spent a month in a hospital here got excellent grub. In my experience, US hospitals aggressively push the “nutrition shake” Ensure. The ingredients label from Original Ensure : And as for the specific row about sugary drinks…how about fruit juices?
