My friend is planning a trip for 3 girls (including me) to Guatemala, specifically the touristy areas of Antigua and Lake Atitlan. None of us have been there before, but my friend planning it is fluent in Spanish (she’s Mexican) and is a more adventurous traveler than I am. I’ve been on the fence about this trip since the start given the US Embassy’s rating, but there also seems to be a bias in these ratings and the reality doesn’t always match. So I started getting excited about the trip but I just saw the very recent news about the US authorizing strikes against gangs in Guatemala (I assume Guatemala City.)
