The London Marathon has a new problem, though it’s probably the kind every major race would love to have. According to the BBC , a record 1,338,544 people entered the lottery for the 2027 London Marathon, breaking last year’s record of 1,133,813. A lot more people want in now, and this only adds even more weight to the still-unconfirmed idea that 2027’s race, scheduled for April 25, could become an unprecedented two-day event . For anyone who entered the lottery, after submitting, applicants were directed to a follow-up page that stated the one-off two-day format is still being explored with partners and stakeholders. “Should permission be granted, you will be entered for both Saturday and Sunday, significantly increasing your chances,” it read, with results expected in early July. U.K. applications passed the one-million mark again, with about 300,000 international applications (including nearly 100,000 from the U.S.), according to figures shared by Athletics Weekly journalist Tim Adams.…
