Two days ago, I checked in on the ninth circle of hell — otherwise known as LinkedIn — and found a pack of mostly white conservative men spiraling into hysteria over Virginia’s move to redraw its congressional districts. This morning, I woke up to a video of Secret Service agents yelling, “Shots fired! Shots fired!” at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner. What. Is. Happening? Let’s stop lying to ourselves. This is not politics as usual. This is not “both sides.” This is not the normal friction of a messy democracy doing its thing.
