Louisiana congressional candidate Lindsay Garcia (D) on Thursday sued Gov. Jeff Landry (R) to block the suspension of the state’s House primary elections after the Supreme Court ruled that the state’s second majority-Black congressional district was an unconstitutional gerrymander. Garcia and voter Eugene Collins argue in their lawsuit that the elections were already in progress when Landry issued an executive order on Thursday. Garcia and Collins called the suspension unconstitutional, alleging that it violates the First, Fourteenth and Fifteenth amendments, interferes with the timing of the election and nullifies absentee ballots. They urged the court to halt enforcement of the executive order, allow the elections to commence and count ballots already cast.…
