It’s been a few weeks since a man was captured on camera, throwing a coconut-sized rock at an endangered and beloved monk seal, dubbed “Lani,” on Maui. Since then, Igor Mykhaylovych Lytvynchuk – 38, of Covington, Washington – has been harangued online, beaten up by local vigilante justice warriors, and arrested on federal charges in violation of the Endangered Species Act and Marine Mammal Protection Act. Now, Lytvynchuk’s lawyer is speaking out, claiming that his client is not guilty. Myles Breiner, Lytvynchuk’s attorney, has made a public statement, claiming that his client had no intent of harming the monk seal, and instead, he was acting heroically. “We believe he’s not guilty, because he never intended to injure the monk seal,” Breiner said. “In fact, it was just the opposite. When he threw the rock, it was to scare the seal away from the turtles, not knowing that it was also an endangered species.” Sounds fishy.…
