I hope this is the right subreddit for this.. TLDR: Have a $400 medical bill and my dad says not to respond to it or pay it because no one pays medical bills and it won't hurt my credit if I don't pay it. He said it would hurt my credit if I do respond to it and pay it. I think that sounds kinda crazy but I'm not sure. What should I do? So I (21F) went to a clinic for a medical problem I was having and got some labs done. I only had like $300 to my name and paid what was due at the clinic visit ($140~. It was supposed to be $500~ but they had some financial assistance stuff at the clinic and took off a good chunk of the bill). I guess that was for the visit and the doctor seeing me. I thought the money I paid then also covered the labs they did, I thought payment was over and done with, but a few weeks later I got an email saying I owe $400~. I don't have a job at the moment unfortunately and I have almost nothing to my name now.…
