Hi guys, I'm facing a dilemma and could use a little help to understand and correct the problem. I've joined a melodic death metal band recently. The tuning is drop B, and at the beginning I made the (silly ?) choice of tuning my bass in F# B F# B E, so it's like a dropped 4 strings bass with extra room in the low end, to go low when guitars go high. I use an Ibanez BTB 605MS. It requires thick strings (60-170), and here's the problem : my attack is really uneven between the 2 thicker strings and the 3 thinner. I could use a standard BEADG tuning by sacrificing the 5 extra low notes, but I would have to re-write and re-learn all my parts (16 songs so far). Or I could play with a pick, but I feel like it doesn't fit my playstyle, the fact that I add a bit of slap and tapping every now & then, and my personal taste. That's the option I like the less.…
