I was building a personal finance tracker for myself. Nothing fancy, just something to manage my accounts, transactions, EMI schedules, investment positions... you know, the usual "I got tired of 10 Google Sheets" kind of project. The backend was NestJS + Postgres/Prisma, clean architecture, the works. At some point I added a global search bar to the frontend. Cmd+K style. You type, results appear across accounts, investments, transactions, all at once. Simple enough to want. Absolutely not simple to build correctly. My first thought was "just ILIKE %query% in Postgres." Worked for 2 minutes.…
