I'm a freelance journalist, and I've been due to attend Computex for a while, but I'm flying via the Middle East, and bombing resumed in Iran a few days ago. I don't want to get stuck there, and my itinerary includes an eight-hour layover on the way there and on the way back, so the risk isn't zero. Feeling extremely conflicted. Reasons to go: It's one of the biggest events in my industry. I've been looking forward to it for months. Potential to find new work by pitching pubs with stories while I'm there. Helps my resumé. Reasons not to go: Save a few grand on flights and hotels. Could get stuck in the Middle East. Feeling nervous in general about flying out that way. Just today, one of the pubs I write for cut my weekly assignments by 50% due to freelance budget cuts, so now I have even less work coming in.
