In March, members of the New York design crowd flocked to a trendy Lower East Side venue for what one might assume was a rowdy house party of surprisingly tasteful proportions. Beer bottles were kept cold in an ice-filled bathtub, towers of pizza boxes blended into the decor as intentional fixtures, but at the center of the room, a dramatic installation of Panthella lamps signaled what partygoers were actually celebrating: late Danish designer Verner Panton ’s 100th birthday, hosted by the Panthella’s manufacturer Louis Poulsen and design substack For Scale . Upon closer inspection, pizza boxes were branded with “100 YEARS OF PANTON,” while flashy Panthella-centric graphics were projected on the walls.
