Do you guys prefer the attic accesses that come with a built in pulldown ladder, or just a good old fashion hole with a piece of plywood over it? My attic access is in my main bathroom and it’s super tiny and impractical (home built in the 60’s.). I want to move it to a walk in closet to prevent humidity in the bathroom from egressing into the attic and enlarge it for better ease of access. A guy came yesterday and quoted me 500 dollars to just cut a hole or 900 dollars to do the classic poll string with the built in ladder. What do you guys think? My girlfriend thinks that having the ladder would be nice, but I’ve seen those built in ladders get so rickety that I wouldn’t want a toddler putting their weight on it. Dragging a ladder from the basement to the second story is a pain but how often am I really getting into the attic?
