I'm starting to use my WearOS watch for navigation to make it easier to check if I'm on-trail, and to conserve phone battery when checking water sources etc. I want to save my phone for major route planning and photos. I'd like to avoid apps which require rigid pre-planning as I like to adapt my route in the field. Example use-case: I'd like to set a route, then check it on my watch, find nearby water sources and if they are slightly up a different trail, set that as a via-point and continue navigating with the watch Struggling to find a free app that does this smoothly, with efficient battery consumption, and particularly a notification when I veer off the route so I don't spend all my time checking. Eager to hear suggestions and experiences. If you use paper maps, please ignore this post. submitted by /u/blanchinator [link] [comments]
