“Nimrods: A Green Day Story,” writer-director Lee Kirk’s comedy based on the rock band’s adventures while living in a van before the success of their 1994 album “Dookie,” will be rolling into the Cannes market. Palisades Park Pictures has acquired international sales on the feature, which has a global theatrical rollout set for August, with Inaugural Entertainment handling U.S. distribution. The film, which premiered in Toronto, stars Mason Thames, Mckenna Grace , Jenna Fischer, Angela Kinsey, Sean Gunn, Bobby Lee and Fred Armisen, while Green Day members Billie Joe Armstrong, Tré Cool and Mike Dirnt also appear and perform. “Nimrods” is a coming-of-age film centering on three high school friends who set out on a wild road trip under the mistaken assumption that their fledgling band has been booked to open for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.
