Nothing beats heading to your local supermarket and seeing a bounty of reduced items, particularly in these times of extortionate prices. You’ve probably heard that food prices are set to rise by even more this year. The Food and Drink Federation (FDF) is estimating that food inflation will reach 9 per cent by the end of 2026, largely due to the conflict in the Middle East. This is because the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil passages, has sent global oil prices soaring, which is having a “direct and immediate impact” on production costs for UK food and drink manufacturers.
