Much of eastern Colorado experienced spring snowfall on Wednesday, following a drier-than-average winter that put the entire state in drought. Still, much of the snowfall at lower elevations in southeast Colorado melted quickly due to warm soil temperatures. Around 6 p.m., 1.6 inches of snow was recorded at the Colorado Springs airport, making Wednesday the second day with measurable snowfall for the city since March 6, according to the National Weather Service in Pueblo. This year, the city has recorded over an inch of snow five times, including Wednesday. Across El Paso County, dozens of local snowfall reports by 9 a.m. to the NWS ranged from 2 to 4 inches. Since then, the NWS received two reports in the afternoon of 2 inches at Peterson Air Force Base and 4.5 inches in Monument.
