Scotland swimming- thermal or non thermal wetsuit? Morning all, I have a question regarding wetsuit thickness for swimming in Scotland. I often have issues with getting cold in the water. I've just started enjoying open water swims, and I currently use my 5/4mm surf suit which keeps me plenty warm (besides my face) I'm competing in a swim race in August up here in Scotland, but I want to be able to extend my training season to the colder months as well as summer. Can anyone give advice on whether the extra costs on a thermal suit would be beneficial on a swimming suit? I've never tried one and there's no shops nearby that stock, and I'd like to know if standard swim wetsuits are insulating enough to train/race in up here? The price isn't that much of an issue as I'll get the use out of it, I just worry the thermal suit will be far too hot for summer months, and I'd like to find one suit that can do me for most of the year?
