I'm an amateur bassist who used to (many years ago) get a variety of gigs by word of mouth or by searching on Craigslist. These gigs would always fall enough within the jazz/blues harmonic structure that things clicked really fast regardless of genre (okay, except for extreme forms of metal- I could not just fake my way into those rhythms). It seemed like fun gigs were everywhere and would never run out.
But my actual career got much busier, and for a while I stopped gigging more than once or twice per year. On top of that, I moved to a different state and lost my old music network. Now I'm hoping to play more often but I'm not sure the best way to put myself back out there. Any advice about how best to start up again? (E.g.: Is Craigslist still the best place to hunt for gigs?)
