Thermos recalls millions of food, beverage bottles after 3 suffer ‘permanent vision loss’

Thermos is recalling more than 8 million of its insulated food jars and beverage bottles because gas expansion within the containers can force a lid stopper to pop explosively. The April 30 recall includes 5.8 million Stainless King food jars and about 2.3 million Sportsman food and beverage bottles. From the recall notice, the company writes: “If perishable food or beverages are stored in the container for an extended period of time, the stopper can forcefully eject when opened, which can result in serious impact injury and laceration hazards to the consumer.” The company said it has received 27 reports of injuries from consumers who were struck by a stopper. The complaints included impact and laceration injuries that required medical attention. Three consumers suffered permanent vision loss after being struck in the eye by the stopper. The bottles were sold at Target, Walmart and other stores nationwide and online at popular e-commerce websites between March 2008 and July 2024. Prices were roughly $30.…
