Mehraj Malik , Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Doda, Jammu and Kashmir, was released from Kathua Jail on Tuesday after the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court quashed his detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA). The order, delivered by Justice Mohd Yusuf Wani, found that the State had invoked preventive detention in a case that did not meet the legal threshold to justify the detention order. The court said that “the power of the authorities under the preventive detention laws cannot be allowed to be misused for any reasons beyond the scope of the special legislation”.
