There once was a time—let’s call it 2011 to 2017—when George R.R. Martin fans could expect a new season of Game of Thrones every year. The show’s final installment took a little longer to arrive, bringing the show to its controversial end in 2019. Audiences still tuned in when House of the Dragon premiered in 2022, but it wasn’t until this year’s A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms that it felt like we were back in that peak Westeros excitement era. And Warner Bros. is very eager to capitalize on that. At the Variety Entertainment Marketing Summit (via IGN ), Shauna Spenley, the chief marketing officer at Warner Bros., explained the studio’s strategy and outlook. “ Game of Thrones is this incredible IP that seems in some ways infinite,” Spenley explained. “And we saw just a couple of months ago with Knight of the Seven Kingdoms , which is really lighter fare of that IP, just kind of go supernova all over the world.
