Mangkunegaran Where Javanese courts tend to be seen as cultural relics, Mangkunegaran, one such princely state, envisions becoming the center of a Javanese culture-based economy. This called for a branding effort to build a stronger presence. An identity beyond a royal emblem is needed, as the face of a living entity, continuously growing alongside the society it serves. Working alongside the Mangkunegaran Abdi Dalem (royal household servants) to meet this challenge, the new identity system balances contemporary design interpretation while maintaining the sacredness of Mangkunegaran’s heritage and dignity. The reign of each duke is marked with the creation of a royal emblem. With his ascension, the 10th duke, Mangkoenagoro X, sees the role of his emblem as an opportunity to fortify his vision of a future-forward Javanese principality with a brand identity that encapsulates his reign, Pura Mangkunegaran (palace) and all the entities that fall under his jurisdiction.…
