Slash pile in Pike National Forest set ablaze

Lake George Fire Protection District helped knock down a slash pile fire on May 8. The LGFPD was paged out for a fire on Park County Road 98 in Pikes Peak National Forest at 4:23 a.m. Upon arrival, they found a machine-made slash pile fully engulfed. LGFPD provided two type-six brush trucks, one command, one utility, two type-one engines and one 3000-gallon tender. Nine firefighters were on scene. At 6:31 a.m. the scene was turned over to United States Forest Service and they named the 0.1-acre scene Blue Flats Fire. LGFPD personnel put hose lines just outside the perimeter in case there was any spread and closely monitored the fire. They also protected the scene and flagged any potential items the investigator would want to inspect. LGFPD was released at 3:40 p.m. after the fire was deemed contained. USFS personnel remained on scene and called the fire controlled in the morning on Saturday and declared it out Sunday morning. Arson is suspected and this fire is currently under investigation.…
