The largest PCIe slots on your motherboard, i.e, the x16 slots, are the most likely to be populated. Most people install a graphics card in the primary x16 slot and forget about all other PCIe slots. However, the PCIe x1 slot, which many people deem the "worst" one, can be way more useful than it gets credit for. You may not have used it even once after assembling your PC, but it can add essential capabilities to the motherboard, given the right build. Modern machines with fast onboard Wi-Fi and multi-gig Ethernet may not need too many expansion cards, but if yours is an older build, PCIe x1 cards can be a lifesaver.…
