State Highway 1 has reopened following a fatal crash near Allanton.

One person died and two others were injured following the collision on East Taieri-Allanton Rd at the intersection with Law Rd last night.

The two-vehicle crash was reported just before 5.40pm, a police spokesperson said.

‘‘One person died at the scene, two others sustained minor injuries.’’

NZ Transport Agency/Waka Kotahi said East Taieri-Allanton Rd (SH1) was closed at the intersection with Law Rd and reopened at 1.30am today, a spokesman said. 

Police had completed their onsite investigation and the site was fully cleared, he said. 

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesman said they sent three crews to the crash. Hato Hone St John was also at the scene.
