If you grew up middle-class, you might not have gotten everything you wanted, but you probably didn't go without the basics many people quietly struggle to have, like a stocked fridge, reliable electricity, clean clothes, and a stable place to sleep. Things like having snacks whenever you're hungry, not worrying about the water getting shut off, or turning on the AC on a hot day can feel so normal that you don't notice them. But, they can also create blind spots about what life looks like for people who didn't grow up with that kind of safety net. And sometimes, those blind spots show up in the things people say without thinking.
