Published 8:16 pm Thursday, May 28, 2026 EUGENE — It was not a smooth climb to the top step of the podium, but that is exactly where La Pine’s Lucy Fisher ended up at the Class 3A state track and field state championships Thursday afternoon. The senior pole vaulter overslept her alarm, had to quickly cut weight to be allowed to compete, then had to use all three attempts to clear a height well below her personal best. But by clearing 11 feet, 1 inch with a single jump, Fisher claimed the 3A pole vault state title at Hayward Field. “I’m pretty excited to have won,” Fisher said. “It is a little bittersweet being my last time here at Hayward Field. So many great people have jumped here before me.” Fisher’s victory, along with teammate Sydney Schreiber’s win in the girls long jump, highlighted the first day of the state championships. The two became the first La Pine girls track and field athletes to win a state title since Jordynn Slater won the javelin, shot put and discus in 2018.…
