Nevada DETR hosting events to help laid-off workers from Spirit Airlines

It has only been four days since Spirit Airlines shut down and thousands of workers have been laid off across the country. According to an official notice, the airline laid off 999 workers in Las Vegas alone, and Nevada has responded to help laid-off workers in the Silver State. The Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation (DETR) is hosting two Rapid Response events on Thursday, May 7, to assist workers impacted by the recent layoffs, held simultaneously in Las Vegas and Reno. The Rapid Response events connect affected workers with immediate support and resources to help with the struggle of losing a job. The events will allow former Spirit employees access to career and job search assistance, training and upskilling opportunities through EmployNV, information and guidance on Unemployment Insurance (UI) and details on healthcare options and available community services.
