A new Eurostar agreement could mean that direct trains run from London to Switzerland for the first time. Eurostar, SBB and SNCF Voyageurs have signed a “memorandum of understanding” to establish the potential direct connection between the two destinations. In March, Swiss rail company SBB and French rail service SNCF Voyageurs reached an agreement with the aim of developing new rail routes. Eurostar said: “This marks an important milestone in the long-term planning for the establishment of a potential new direct connection to the United Kingdom.” It added that London is the number one flight destination from Switzerland, with “strong customer demand for a direct rail connection”. The direct rail connection between London and Switzerland would “necessarily” run through France. Journeys from London to Zurich would typically take around six hours, while connections to Geneva would be slightly shorter at five and a half hours.
