The Café Royal Grill inside Hotel Café Royal has long been one of London's most storied restaurants —and as of June 2025, it's now open for business again. Over the course of its 160-year history, it was a magnet for the city's painters, writers, musicians, and luminaries. Oscar Wilde regularly held court amid its gilded ceilings and mirrored walls. Elizabeth Taylor dined here with Richard Burton. Princess Diana met Phil Collins. And in 1973, David Bowie threw a farewell party for his glam alien alter ego, Ziggy Stardust, surrounded by a glittering crowd of famous friends including Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, and Ringo Starr. For years, though, the Café Royal Grill has been known primarily for afternoon tea. Now, as the hotel marks its 160th anniversary, the dining room has returned to something closer to its original purpose—serving a spirited, scene-y lunch and dinner once again.
