Mortgage interest rates are barely higher today as the Federal Reserve wraps its two-day meeting this afternoon. The average interest rate on a 30-year, fixed-rate mortgage rose to 6.13% APR, according to rates provided to NerdWallet by Zillow. This is one basis point higher than yesterday and 13 basis points higher than a week ago. (See our chart below for more specifics.) A basis point is one one-hundredth of a percentage point. At its April meeting, the Federal Reserve is widely expected to keep its benchmark interest rate the same — a move mortgage markets have largely priced in. While the Fed tends to move slowly and deliberately to keep the economy on track, mortgage rates often react much more quickly to day-to-day economic news and global events.…
