David Scott (D-Ga.) has died at age 80, a senior House Democrat familiar with the matter confirmed to Axios. Driving the news: Scott served in Congress for more than 20 years, including as the top Democrat on the House Agriculture Committee from 2021 to 2025. But his health was a growing concern for colleagues in recent years, and he was ousted from his committee leadership role after the 2024 election. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported his death, citing confirmation from his office, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Axios.
