Published 6:00 am Saturday, April 25, 2026 Judy Reeder parked her car on Riverside Boulevard near Drake Park at about 9:30 p.m. on a Friday. She put her purse under the seat. She locked the car. She pocketed the keys. People who saw her driving said she was alone. She usually wore her hair down. That Friday she wore it up, secured with a comb. Around mid-morning the next day, two children found her body in the river near the east end of the Drake Park footbridge. The children had been looking for a pair of lost eyeglasses. Their parents called police. It was Saturday, Feb. 3, 1962. Judy was 17, a senior at Bend Senior High School. She had been a homecoming princess and active in 4-H. Her body was in shallow water near the river’s edge. The ice nearby was crushed. A medical examination found she had suffered multiple blows to the head. The cause of death was determined to be drowning, though she would have also died from the blows to the head. The blows all came from the same direction.…
