Carie Hallford, the former Return to Nature Funeral Home co-owner who helped her then-husband hide nearly 200 decomposing bodies, was sentenced Friday to 30 years in state prison. Hallford pleaded guilty to corpse abuse of at least 191 bodies that were found rotting inside the Penrose funeral home in October 2023. Authorities say she and her ex-husband, Jon Hallford, maintained a lavish lifestyle and gave fake ashes to some families of the dead while many of the bodies rested inside the home for months. While authorities recovered and identified 191 bodies, Judge Eric Bentley acknowledged that 987 other clients still don’t know what happened to their loved ones. The Hallfords were handed down federal and state charges, some of which were dismissed in their plea deals. They took over $130,000 from families for funeral services, including cremations, and often gave them urns full of concrete mix. In two cases, investigators found the wrong body was buried.…
