Washington softball earns first Big Ten tournament victory

The Washington softball team earned its first Big Ten tournament win in program history on Wednesday afternoon, defeating No. 12-seed Minnesota 4-2 in College Park, Maryland. The No. 5 seed Huskies (36-17) advance to the quarterfinals to play 4th-seeded Indiana (41-13) on Thursday at 8 a.m. Pacific. Morgan Reimer threw a complete game and earned her 23rd win in the circle, recording six strikeouts and giving up just four hits on the way to the victory. The Gophers got going early against Washington, striking first with an RBI double in the top of the opening frame. UW got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second to tie the score at 1-1, beginning with a Melody Acevedo single. Ally Hetzel then grounded out to help Acevedo advance a base before Marley Teasley singled in a run. Minnesota (16-36) took a 2-1 lead in the third on Cassie Johnson’s homer. Washington tied the score in the bottom of the fourth on a Kaycie Burdick RBI single that scored pinch runner Mila Reddy.…
