YouTube’s new custom feed puts you in charge of your home page

For a long time, YouTube’s home feed has done whatever it wanted. Watch one video about home cooking and suddenly your feed is full of it for weeks. Small tweaks have existed to nudge the algorithm, but nothing that really let you take control. That’s changing now that YouTube is rolling out its YouTube custom feed feature, letting you type out exactly what you want to see. The feature shows up as a chip at the top of the home page labeled “Your custom feed.” Tap it, type in your request, and YouTube builds a dedicated feed around that. Google offered some example prompts: “give me something different beyond my usual feed” or “help me unwind after work with guided meditations under 10 minutes.” The feed refreshes constantly, so new content keeps coming in. You can edit your prompt anytime to change directions. Only one custom feed is active per account at a time. Prompts expire after 30 days of inactivity.…
