I feel like this is one of those things that everyone says and nobody fully registers until they do the math themselves. I've been buying pre-cut stir fry mixes, sliced mushrooms, shredded cabbage, diced onions for probably three years. My justification was always that it saves time and I cook after work when I'm tired. Both true. But last month I actually compared prices side by side at my usual grocery store while I was standing in the produce section. Pre-sliced cremini mushrooms, 8oz package: $3.49. Whole cremini mushrooms, 16oz: $3.29. So literally double the amount for less money. I just stood there for a second. Pre-cut stir fry vegetable mix, 12oz bag: $4.79. Buying the individual vegetables to make the same rough mix: about $2.20 depending on the week. Pre-shredded coleslaw cabbage mix: $2.99 for 14oz. Buying a small head of cabbage and taking two minutes to shred it: around $0.89.…
