At Kiwanis-Teledyne Park on Pine Lake in La Porte, Indiana, there are seven chimes, ranging from 7-9 feet tall, with two mallets on which a joyful noise can be made. A trained ear will instantly note that when striking these chimes, the pitch is one octave below middle C. They are considered contrabass, or double bass.

In 2017, the Joyful Noise Outdoor Instruments were installed as part of a cooperative project between the La Porte City Council and the City’s Director of Community Development and Planning. Outdoor musical instruments have since been installed in several parks and public buildings, where music can be made year-round.

The other sites around La Porte are:

  • Yantzee at Unity Park
  • Imbarimba at Fox Park
  • The Swirl at Plaza 618
  • Manta Ray at Civic Auditorium
  • Babel Drum at La Porte City Hall

Now go rock those chimes!
