About a third of U.S. adults (32%) say they’re very or somewhat likely to seriously consider purchasing an electric vehicle, and 44% say the same about a hybrid, according to a Pew Research Center survey from March. The survey took place a few weeks into the U.S. military conflict against Iran, which has led to sharply higher gas prices nationwide. However, electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles made up only 10% of all new cars sold in the United States in 2025, according to the most recent data from the International Energy Agency (IEA). That was well below the global average of 25% and far below the share in many of the 58 other countries for which 2025 data is available.…
