Rice missed the team's voluntary offseason workouts and mandatory minicamp while serving his sentence, but the expectation inside the organization is that he will be available when training camp opens later this summer. The 26-year-old underwent knee surgery shortly before beginning his jail term to remove debris that had been causing inflammation, and a judge approved arrangements allowing him to continue receiving medical treatment during his incarceration. Chiefs coach Andy Reid recently expressed confidence that Rice remains on schedule for a return. "Rick has talked to him more than what I have," Reid said, referring to Chiefs trainer Rick Burkholder. "Just making sure that everything was set there where he could do some rehab with it and still do the time that he needed to take care of."
