Big Fat Head have been kicking around my state for quite some time now. The group got started nearly a decade ago in Athens, Ohio, where I attended Ohio University once upon a time. (Sadly, my college years were way more than a decade ago.) Back then the band was more like Nate Wilder's solo project. But in the post-COVID years, Big Fat Head took root in Columbus and became more of a unit. At this point they're up to six members. Opening for Water From Your Eyes a few weeks ago, they were formidable. It's tough to pinpoint exactly what this band sounds like. It's alternative rock, I guess? Or maybe art-pop? It's fanciful stuff, catchy but never really sounding like accessibility is a core tenet of the operation. Things shift significantly from song to song, too. Today they announced Global Voyeur , their new album dropping in July, and four tracks from the thing are already streaming.
