Recently Anthony came to us with the news that he legally changed his last name. Our surname is an unusual one that often gets made fun of. It was nothing personal, Anthony said; he just never liked our last name. I’m fine with his decision. But my husband is outraged, and has taken it as a personal insult. Anthony was the only son between himself and his two brothers, and he is fuming over “the family name dying out.” He has even said he doesn’t know if he wants to see our son for the foreseeable future.
