Published 11:12 am Tuesday, April 28, 2026 Brad Parry, vice chairman of the Northwestern Band of the Shoshone Nation, has been named the inaugural recipient of the Schnitzer Prize of the West , a new $50,000 award recognizing collaborative solutions to environmental challenges across the region. The prize, administered by the High Desert Museum in partnership with Jordan D. Schnitzer and the Harold & Arlene Schnitzer CARE Foundation, honors Parry’s leadership of the Wuda Ogwa Cultural and Land Restoration Project in southeastern Idaho. He will be recognized at a ceremony at the museum on May 17. Parry was selected for his work restoring the site of the 1863 Bear River Massacre, where more than 400 tribal members were killed. Since the tribe acquired the 350-acre property in 2018, the project has focused on ecological recovery and cultural healing, including reestablishing a historic creek channel, removing invasive species and planting more than 70,000 native plants.…
