I'm a self taught guitar player who started drums almost 2 years ago. I have been trying to learn drums the same way I learned guitar. Basically just learning songs I like and jamming to them (which I was able to get pretty damn good at guitar doing that). Never really did paradides or practiced any specific techniques. For the first year I made pretty good progress. But the last 6 months I've completely stalled. Everything is sort of sloppy. Can't keep time very well. My double bass and left foot single bass is trash. My ability to play/improvise fills is terrible. My limb independence is terrible. Seeing all the drummers on social media easily doing things I couldn't even dream of. I can't really afford lessons and here's the best part, I have zero motivation to sit there and do paradidles. It's like torture. Feels like I wasted the last 2 years. If I have to start over and do single strikes on a metronome at 30 bpm I think I would rather just quit. Idk.…
